WOSA at OSSA 2024

What an honour to have these two amazing guest speakers. Prof Ciku Mathenge is a force and a beacon for Women in Ophthalmology worldwide, but more importantly on our African continent. Without Prof Femida Kherani, WOSA would not exist - she started the roots of encouragement for what we have become.

WOSA celebrated glaucoma specialist, Dr Lili Farrokh-Siar (wife of OSSA guest speaker Prof Kouros Rezai) & Mrs Nikki Hafezi (wife of OSSA guest speaker Prof Farhad Hafezi and CEO & FOunder of EMAGine)

Two WOSA founding members, Dr Bayanda Mbambisa and Dr Farah Moti - are also the immediate past past and immediate past presidents of OSSA (the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa). Dr Moti handed over her presidential reigns at the OSSA 2024 banquet dinner.

Our founding President, Dr Nonhlanhla Majola, has stepped down after a two-year term and Dr Nombuso Mathe has taken over the reigns as WOSA President 

After months of planning and deliberation, our in-person launch finally happened at the OSSA Congress 2023.

We missed Anesu as she just had a newborn (her third) but nonetheless was an exhilarating event.

Our WOSA Virtual Launch was a very exciting beginning with three such prominent speakers. We also launched it in August, which is Women's month in South Africa.
