Dr Nombuso Mathe is an Ophthalmologist and Head of Ophthalmology at Greys Tertiary Hospital and the greater Pietermaritzburg Complex. She is also a glaucoma specialist, having completed her fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. She is the Vice President of the South African Glaucoma Society and is an honourary lecturer at the University of Kwazulu Natal’s Department of Ophthalmology . She is passionate about teaching, diversity and transformation, patient advocacy and education.
Dr Nonhlanhla Majola is a general ophthalmologist with a special interest in
Oculoplastic Surgery. She lives and works in Durban, South Africa, where she
runs her private practice.
She was previously on the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa Young
Ophthalmologists (OSSA YO) committee; and thereafter on the OSSA Executive Committee from 2019 - 2023. She is an African Ophthalmological
Council Leadership Development Program (AOC LDP) graduate.
Dr Darshana Soma is a vitreo-retinal ophthalmologist. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Pretoria. She further went on to obtain her fellowship degree in Ophthalmology and her Masters degree in Ophthalmology at the University of Witwatersrand. She has a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery.
She is the current unit head of Ophthalmology at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. She is also a full time lecturer at the University of Pretoria. She is a vitreoretinal surgeon with special interest in diabetic retinopathy. Her special interestes include paediatric ophthalmology and retina. She has spent 20 years in Academic training hospitals (linked to the University of Witwatersrand and later the University of Pretoria) assisting to train registrars in Ophthalmology.
Dr Farah Moti is a comprehensive ophthalmologist in Canada.
Her specials interests are immediately sequential bilateral cataract surgery; glaucoma and the diabetic eye.
She resides in Toronto with her husband and three kids,
She is the immediate past president of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA). She is a WITS graduate and she was awarded her MMed degree with distinction for her research report in Glaucoma.
Prior to private practice, she ran a regional hospital Ophthalmology unit for five years and remains passionate about improving eye health services in the public sector.
Dr Bayanda Mbambisa is currently the Head of Clinical Unit: Ophthalmology at Port Elizabeth Provincial and Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha, with an interest in anterior segment, cornea, and community ophthalmology. She is also a Senior Lecturer at Walter Sisulu University.
She is the Past President of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA).
In 2017, she founded the OSSA Young Ophthalmologists (OSSA YO) society.
Dr Madikane is an ophthalmologist in private practice in Pretoria. She qualified as a medical doctor from Stellenbosh University and went on to train as an ophthalmologist at the University of Pretoria. Her interests within ophthalmology are cataract and anterior segment surgery.
Dr Maanda Mabogo is Ophthalmologist in private practice in Pretoria. She qualified as medical doctor from University of Cape Town and completed her specialist training at Sefako Makgatho Health Science University.
She has a special interest in oculoplastic and orbit surgery.
Dr Lenake is an ophthalmologist with a special interest in oculoplastic surgery.
Soon after her specialist training, she departed for Melbourne, Australia where she completed the Orbital, Plastics and Lacrimal fellowship at the prestigious Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
She was the recipient of the Justin Van Selm medal, which is awarded to outstanding candidates in the fellowship examination of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa. She was also awarded her MMed degree with distinction (Cum Laude) from the University of Cape Town.
She is the past president of the South African Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (SASOPS) and is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).
Dr Taimeia Hussain is a general ophthalmologist in private practice with an interest in Vitreoretinal surgery and glaucoma. She completed her specialist training at the University of the Witwatersrand.
She is the past president of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa Young Ophthalmologists (OSSAYO).
Dr. Hussain is involved in the Islamic Medical Association's cataract program, arranging monthly weekend surgical lists at St. John Eye Hospital since 2022.
